Gloucestershire Deaf Association (GDA) Announcement
GDA is delighted to announce we will be working in partnership with Action Deafness - a fellow deaf-led charity. This partnership marks an important step in strengthening our long-term sustainability and extending the reach of our specialist services, enabling us to support even more Deaf, Deafblind and Hard of Hearing people across Gloucestershire.
Through this collaboration, both organisations will share expertise, resources and best practice to enhance the quality, consistency and impact of services. Our shared aim is to ensure that Deaf and Hard of Hearing people are fully supported, empowered and able to achieve their potential.
This integration is a positive and carefully considered step forward. It will build on GDA’s strong local presence and trusted reputation, while creating new opportunities for growth and development. GDA will continue to deliver its impactful services from its current base, with day-to-day support, clinics and events continuing as planned. For people accessing our services, it will remain very much business as usual - with the same dedicated teams and continued commitment to high-quality support.
Our shared vision remains unchanged: a society where people living with any level of deafness can live empowered and fulfilling lives. With a proud history spanning over 100 years, GDA looks ahead with confidence, strengthening its future while continuing to serve the community.
A message from GDA’s senior leadership team:
“This partnership brings together two long-standing organisations with deep roots in the deaf community. It provides a strong foundation to sustain and develop GDA’s services, ensuring we can continue to meet the needs of our community both now and in the future.”
A message from Action Deafness:
“This integration reflects a shared commitment to deaf-led values, quality services and long-term sustainability. By working alongside GDA, we are strengthening local delivery while building a more resilient and connected organisation for the future. Our priority is to ensure continuity, stability and growth so that deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing people across Gloucestershire continue to receive the support they need, both now and in the years ahead.”
If you have any questions or would like to know more about this partnership, please contact the team. We are excited about what lies ahead and have an ambitious programme of activities planned for the year. GDA Launches its NXT GEN Service!
We are really excited to be officially launching our revitalised NXT GEN service. This service is for deaf and hard of hearing children, their siblings and children of deaf adults aged 9-16. Nxt Gen is a series of GDA events, activities and outings where young deaf people can come together to socialise, make friends and have fun with their peers.
GDA has been seeking to secure resources for this much needed service throughout the aftermath of the COVID pandemic and so we are really pleased to be able to support this age range of young people again, many of whom have grown up with GDA as Dalmatians prior to 2020.
There are lots of events and activities planned throughout 2024 and beyond ranging from Bowling and Laser tag, Forest School, Walls Ice Cream tours and fun sports themed days. We held a parent workshop recently and have lots more ideas from parents and children on what they would like to see from this service.
Our first event will be Bowling and Laser tag on the 4th April at Tenpin which has been kindly funded by Pied Piper. Please see poster for details on how to book for this event.
We cant wait to welcome our Nxt Gen back to GDA!
