GDA launches educational videos for British Sign Language users

Following on from the huge success of their recent series of Deaf Awareness videos Gloucestershire Deaf Association (GDA) have launched a new series of educational videos specifically for British Sign Language (BSL) users.

GDA’s ‘Money Matters’ series kicked off today with ‘Buying a car’, the first of five videos.

The short video offers useful and must-know tips for when considering buying a new car, for instance the possible extra insurance cost, the finance options or the fuel consumption?

The aim of the videos is to enable deaf BSL users to take control of their lives by enabling them to make decisions that will benefit them.

Future videos will be posted each Thursday at 12pm for the next four weeks. Each one will look at different financial elements and offer helpful advice and tips for BSL users.  Readers can view the videos on GDA’s Youtube channel at www.youtube.com/GDAGlosDeaf and by following our Twitter account @glosdeaf.

Reg Cobb, GDA’s Project Developer said “Thanks to some funding from the Lloyds TSB Foundation we have been able to put together this series of short videos to benefit Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) users. It is vital that the Deaf BSL users have access to the same information as hearing people. Through this series of videos we hope to make a positive difference that will allow deaf people to be equal within society.”
