GDA joins BBC Music in Tewkesbury

BBC comes to Tewkesbury. Over 150 young musicians to perform the BBC Ten Pieces

The Rotary Club of Tewkesbury and Gloucestershire Music will once again join forces for a celebration of the finest youth music making in Gloucestershire.  The Gloucestershire County Youth Choir, Youth Wind Orchestra, Youth orchestra and Gloucestershire Deaf Association Young Musicians will perform all of the 2015 BBC Ten Pieces.  The Ten Pieces is a national initiative in engage young people in classical music.  This concert is one of many event happening around the UK this year.   

The Gloucestershire County Youth Choir have already performed at the Royal Albert Hall and won a national teaching award.  The Gloucestershire Youth Wind Orchestra and Youth orchestra have, between them, six national performance awards in the last five years.  Paul Whitaker (OBE) will lead our new Gloucestershire Deaf Association Young Musicians. 

Works by Beethoven, Meredith, Stravinsky, Mussorgsky, Adams, Greig, Handel, Holst, Mozart and Britten will entertain another packed audience for what has become an annual showcase for Gloucestershire’s County Music Groups. 

Steven Legge (Head of Instrumental and Vocal Tuition for Gloucestershire Music) said:  This event will be a memorable one, with three county music groups performing alongside a newly formed Deaf Choir.  Our county music groups have been awarded numerous national performance awards and we are sure the audience will be entertained by over 150 young musicians. 

Gemma Sills, Events Coordinator at Gloucestershire Deaf Association said “It is a real pleasure to be a part of this wonderful event alongside some of the county’s most talented young musicians. We’re extremely grateful to The Rotary Club of Tewkesbury for inviting us to showcase the talents of GDA’s young people and giving them this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
