Successful fundraising weekend for GDA

Over the weekend, GDA supporters raised over £2,800 to help fund vital support and activities for local deaf and hard of hearing communities.

On Friday evening GDA Trustee and supporter, Jackie Gloyn hosted a St George's Day themed dinner party. Over 30 guests were treated to a delicious five-course home cooked meal which included mushroom soup, beef cobbler and a scrumptious array of desserts. Along with a group of helpers including members of Jackie's family, Jackie hosted a truly wonderful evening which everyone enjoyed. Thanks to ticket sales, the raffle draw and donations, Jackie's dinner party raised over £2,500 for GDA!!

Jackie held the dinner party as part of the Cirencester and Districts Soroptimist's fundraising for GDA, following the announcement that they have chosen GDA as their charity for 2013.

Then on Saturday the fourth annual Real London Game took place in aid of GDA. Hosted by Gemma Sills and Tamsyn Wymer, the treasure hunt style game takes place in London where teams have to reach five randomly selected destinations and return to the chosen base in the quickest time. There are of course challenges along the way, which either help or hinder the teams. The winning team is presented with the much sought after Real London Game trophy which they keep for twelve months, and a round of drinks kindly donated by the Mason Arms pub in Battersea. Participants were asked to pay a £5 entry fee with 100 percent of the fee going to the chosen charity; GDA. In total the game raised £283.75 for Gloucestershire Deaf Association.

GDA would like to thank both supporters for raising such an amazing amount and for taking the time out to support local hearing impaired people.

The charity relies on the kindness of the general public and local businesses so we can continue making a difference. The efforts of our supporters, no matter how large or small really does help GDA give deaf and hard of hearing people the same opportunities in life that hearing people already enjoy.
