Cheltenham Half Marathon runners raise over £1,400 for local deaf charity

On Sunday 7 September, two GDA supporters joined the thousands of other runners taking part in the Cheltenham Half Marathon. As well as successfully completing the 13 mile course Kimberley Robinson and Alex Tomlinson smashed their initial £500 fundraising target and have gone on to raise over £1,400 for GDA.

Along the way their fundraising efforts have included hosting a raffle and bucket collections as well as receiving donations from generous family and friends – some supporters even opted to do the Ice Bucket Challenge in aid of Kimberley and Alex’s fundraising. Local businesses including Nicholas White Hairdressing Salon and AVM Storage have also supported their fundraising.

Kimberley said “We were really nervous on the day but so pleased we did it and made it across the finish line in one piece!! To have nearly trebled our original fundraising target from £500 to £1,500 is just amazing and we’re so grateful to everyone who sponsored us, bought raffle tickets and offered their words of encouragement – at the 12 mile mark, they really helped."

“My mum is deaf and has had a lot of support from GDA in the past and so doing this challenge has been our way of giving something back to the charity. We’re now looking forward to sitting down with GDA to decide where specifically the money help. The whole experience has been fantastic, it was a great day with a really fun atmosphere – we’d recommend anyone to do it, especially for Gloucestershire Deaf Association!”.

GDA’s Chief Executive Officer said “We are so proud of Kimberley and Alex and what they’ve achieved, not just on the day itself but all the hard work they put in over the last few months to raise such a fantastic amount. Their commitment and dedication will help fund . Both of them have been an inspiration to everyone here at GDA”
