GDA Launches its NXT GEN Service!

We are really excited to be officially launching our revitalised NXT GEN service. This service is for deaf and hard of hearing children, their siblings and children of deaf adults aged 9-16.  Nxt Gen is a series of GDA events, activities and outings where young deaf people can come together to socialise, make friends and have fun with their peers.

GDA has been seeking to secure resources for this much needed service throughout the aftermath of the COVID pandemic and so we are really pleased to be able to support this age range of young people again, many of whom have grown up with GDA as Dalmatians prior to 2020.

There are lots of events and activities planned throughout 2024 and beyond ranging from Bowling and Laser tag, Forest School, Walls Ice Cream tours and fun sports themed days. We held a parent workshop recently and have lots more ideas from parents and children on what they would like to see from this service.

Our first event will be Bowling and Laser tag on the 4th April at Tenpin which has been kindly funded by Pied Piper. Please see poster for details on how to book for this event.

We cant wait to welcome our Nxt Gen back to GDA!

Feel the Fear And Do It Anyway - Firewalk!

On Friday night, 28 people felt their fear and did it anyway to raise money for GDA and CCPCharity. Brave firewalkers from across the county joined together in a flame filled evening of self belief, courage and motivation to raise over £8000 so far!

It was an incredible evening for both charities and a really successful collaboration bringing the two local causes together. We were also pleased to support Sunflowers Suicide Support as two of their firewalkers joined us after theirs was previously postponed due to bad weather last year.

We want to thank everyone who took part, the awesome volunteers who helped on the night, Brickhampton Court for the free use of their venue and Blaze, The Firewalking Experts for keeping everyone’s toes in tact

An amazing night breaking down barriers and proving anything is possible!

We are excited to introduce GDA’s new CEO, Danielle Neale.  Danielle has over 15 years’ experience at Director level in the Public Sector, including working across the MoJ and NHS and has over 7 years’ experience of working in the Third Sector.  Danielle has supported a range of charities and social enterprise organisations to develop organisational growth, financial viability and enhance partnership opportunities and has mentored several Chief Executive Officers to innovate and grow their organisations.  To complement these strong business, financial and leadership skills Danielle has also operated as a Non-Executive Director both in the Public Sector and in the Third Sector.  Danielle says, “I am delighted to be leading such an important local charity into an exciting new period and I am looking forward to working with my team and GDA’s partners to continue the excellent work.”

Thank you Midcounties Co-operative!

We are thrilled to announce the fantastic news that The Midcounties Co-operative Forest of Dean Regional Community have chosen to support GDA as their charity partner for the next 12 months. Three charities were shortlisted with members voting either online or instore for their chosen charity with GDA receiving the most votes. With 8 food stores, 2 travel agents, 200 colleagues and 50,000 customers a week this partnership is incredible news for our charity, both in terms of fundraising but also awareness raising of the support available that GDA offers deaf and hard of hearing adults and children across the county.

“We are absolutely delighted for our members and colleagues to have chosen GDA as our charity partner. The charity does such incredible and important work, and all of the colleagues are excited to be raising money for such a great cause. We have already planned our Dalmatian Day for GDA in stores and a marathon walk for later this year and look forward to raising awareness as well as funds”. Chris Chandler, Forest of Dean Regional Community Ambassador at The Midcounties Co-operative.

“This partnership means so much to GDA and we are over the moon to have been chosen by members. We are so excited to partner with The Midcounties Forest of Dean Regional Community and have already been blown away by the passion and ideas for fundraising which have started already. It was a pleasure to welcome some of the Store Managers to GDA for a tour of our centre in Barnwood. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for us!” Sally Gillespie, Fundraising Manager at GDA.
