Deaf charity appoints new CEO

GDA’s Jenny Hopkins, will be stepping down from the position of Chief Executive Officer, after ten years in post.

From mid-November, Gloucestershire’s deaf charity will be led by Sharon Bryant, who comes to GDA from the charity Sense. Sharon brings with her over 25 years experience of working in the field of disability and most notably supporting people with sensory needs.

GDA’s Chair of Trustees, Chris Gardner said “Everyone associated with GDA is sad to be saying goodbye to Jenny.  Over the past ten years, Jenny has led the charity from a somewhat old-fashioned and inward looking organisation, into a vibrant, innovative and diverse charity, that is now widely respected for its achievements.

Sharon Bryant is an exceptional new CEO. She has a wealth of experience in supporting deaf and hard of hearing people in like-minded charities and is fluent in British Sign Language.  Her early appointment means that she will also benefit from a period of handover with Jenny.

So, GDA can look forward to a seamless transition to the benefit of its thousands of deaf and hard of hearing clients and stakeholders in Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and South Gloucestershire. These are exciting times for the charity.”
