A trio of fundraising events

Quiz Night, Last Night of the Proms and a Triathlon

This weekend GDA enjoyed a variety of events which took place all to raise money for our charity. It was a really busy weekend with a Quiz Night on Friday, 'Last Night of the Proms' on Saturday and a Triathlon on Sunday. So, starting in date order here is an overview of what happened...

Friday 6 September - Quiz Night

The 'Quiz Night with a Difference' was held in aid of two young deaf ladies who will be taking on the Three Peak Challenge in aid of GDA at the end of the month. Sally Webb and Olivia Hills have been busy fundraising over the summer by holding tea parties and car boot sales as well as asking family, friends and local businesses to get behind their adventure. On Friday twelve teams came along to show their support and help boost their fundraising total even further.

Teams were tested on rounds including an observation round, a tasting round with different brands of Cola and the famous plasticine round where teams were asked to create their mode of transport for getting up a mountain. The creativity of GDA supporters shown through as they came up with impressive helicopters, bikes and even Dr Who's tardis!!

It was a fabulous evening full of fun and laughter and thanks to the traditional raffle draw and a delicious cake sale the evening raised a fantastic £483.33 which takes Sally and Olivia's total up to a staggering £1,925.00 which is simply fantastic and will help support GDA's deaf youth group, GDYZ as well as the general support and services GDA's offer to hearing impaired people across Gloucestershire.

Saturday 7 September - Last Night of the Proms

The 'Last Night of the Proms' is about as British as you can possibly get and on Saturday evening GDA supporter the Cirencester and District Soroptimist International group held their own Last Night of the Proms in aid of the charity's Education Centre.

Held at the South Cerney Village Hall, over 70 guests enjoyed an evening of pomp and ceremony while watching the event live from the Royal Albert Hall in London. Guests were treated to a delicious cold buffet followed by ice-cream kindly donated by Walls in Gloucester.

In amongst all the traditional bobbing up and down to 'Pomp and Circumstance' the evening raised over £1,400 for GDA which is simply fantastic and our sincere thanks goes to everyone who put in so much effort to make the evening such a success.

Sunday 8 September - Cheltenham Triathlon

To end the weekend's fundraising events GDA supporter Gaetan Quinson took part in the Cheltenham Triathlon to raise money for GDA's hard of hearing services.

Starting off at the Sandford Parks Lido in Cheltenham, Gaetan took to the water to complete the swim before heading out on the bike for a 15km cycle ride and finishing with a 2.7km run. To date Gaetan has raised over £130 for the charity thanks to family, friends and local businesses and organisations supporting his challenge.

All in all it has been a hugely successful weekend for GDA's fundraising. The three events have raised well over £2,000 which will help fund the various services and support GDA's offers to hearing impaired people in Gloucestershire. We simply cannot thank everyone enough, who in some way or another helped make each of the events such a success.

Here's to the next GDA fundraising weekend extravaganza!!!
